Abbreviations

BEV Battery Electric Vehicle; electric vehicle with battery as energy storage.

EREV Extended-Range Electric Vehicle; vehicle with 2 motors (electric motor and combustion engine) and 2 energy storage systems (battery and tank). Only the electric motor has mechanical access to the drive wheels, the combustion engine is only used to charge the battery (see also REEV).

eVTOL Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing; electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically.

FCEV Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicle; electric vehicle with electric motor, hydrogen tank and fuel cell to convert hydrogen into electricity.

PHEV Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle; vehicle with 2 motors (electric motor and combustion engine) and 2 energy storage systems (battery and tank). Both motors have a mechanical pass-through to the drive wheels.

LFP – Lithium-Ferrophosphat; Abbreviation for the cell chemistry of the cathode in lithium-ion cells of the LFP type.

LTO Lithium Titanad Oxide; abbreviation for the cell chemistry of the anode of lithium ion cells, in LTO cells the graphite in the anode is replaced by LTO.

NEV New Energy Vehicle; this abbreviation is used in China to refer to all vehicles with electric drive, i.e. BEV, FCEV, PHEV and REEV.

NMC Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt; abbreviation for the cell chemistry of the metallic cathode of lithium-ion cells, often the quantity ratio is also described by a numerical code. Example: NMC811 stands for 80% nickel, 10% manganese and 10% cobalt.

REEV Range-Extended Electric Vehicle; vehicle with 2 motors (electric motor and combustion engine) and 2 energy storage systems (battery and tank). Only the electric motor has mechanical access to the drive wheels, the combustion engine is only used to charge the battery (see also REEV).
